Combat Camera Pacific – 2006 Mercy Deployment

After the journey across the Pacific Ocean, the first stop for the Mercy crew was to provide humanitarian support to Zamboanga City and Basilon Island, Republic of the Philippines.  While there, my Combat Camera team and I documented all mission related events… Medical Action Programs, Dental Care Clinics, and various efforts to help with reconstruction projects to local hospitals and schools.  It was an honor to be a part of a task that emphasizes the compassionate side of the the United States Navy… working together with organizations to help those in need around the world.  I created special collages to depict each port of call (as pictured above), summarizing the amazing efforts provided by all who were involved with this unique mission.

Republic of the Philippines (May 29, 2006) Medical Civil Action Program (MEDCAP) located on Basilon Island, just south of Zamboanga City. MEDCAPs are an integral part of Mercy’s humanitarian mission and provide a multitude of medical, dental and veterinary care for the people who live in this region. Mercy was embarked on a humanitarian deployment to South and Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands. Mercy is able to rapidly respond to a range of situations on short notice and is capable of supporting medical and humanitarian assistance needs with special medical equipment and a multi-specialized medical team, providing a range of services ashore as well as aboard the ship. The medical staff is augmented with an assistance crew, many of whom are part of non-governmental organizations that have significant medical capabilities.
