I had the honor of doing two tours with the VXE-6 “Puckered Penguins”. I first joined the squadron in 1991 as lead video production coordinator, producing two detailed documentaries of the squadrons mission during the Deep Freeze ’92 and Deep Freeze ’93 deployments. I returned for a second tour in 1996, as the squadron’s lead aerial photographic division. I oversaw the Polar Program’s traditional photography assets converted to an “all digital imaging” process, making VXE-6 the first Navy Squadron to “exclusively” utilize digital photography. I also instituted the photographic aerial flight procedures for South Pole Station, that was utilized by the National Science Foundation after VXE-6 disestablished in 1999.
