World Images: Historical Huts of Antarctica

During my second tour with Antarctic Development Squadron Six (VXE-6), I had several opportunities to visit the historical huts located near McMurdo Station on the Ross Ice Shelf.  The small “cabin” like structures were built during the first few expeditions to the continent in the early 1900’s, and although they are over 100 years old, they are almost perfectly preserved by the dry Antarctic climate.  Some of the images were captured by Nikon/Kodak DCS 410 mounted on a tripod – Timed Exposure to allow for “Painted Light” technique inside the dark interior.  These places are truly a staple in time, and it was a privilege have been able to photograph such places.

Lorena Wortman - Absolutely AMAZING!! Wonderful pictures and Creativity.

Tony Medellin - I have been to Scott’s Hut also during my time with VXE-6 1995 – 1999.
