Combat Camera Pacific – 2006 Mercy Deployment

TARAKAN, Indonesia (Aug. 14, 2006)
The morning sun rises off of the bow as members from the hospital ship, USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) prepare for another full day of providing medical and dental care throughout the island of Tarakan. The ship continues its one week stay off the coast of this small Indonesian island located in the province of East Kalimantan for one week to provide humanitarian and civic assistance to the people living there. Mercy is in the fourth month of her five-month humanitarian and civic assistance deployment to South and Southeast Asia where her crew has already treated thousands of people. The ship’s mission is being carried out by volunteers from Project HOPE and the UCSD Pre-Dental Society along with a contingent of military medical specialists from the United States, India, Malaysia, and Canada. Mercy’s U.S. military crew consists of medical teams from the Navy, Air Force and Army.
